Google-glass

Google has begun a Glass at Work initiative, asking businesses how they're working with Glass, and the kinds of applications they're developing. Google's post on Google+ cites the Washington Capitals' work with PX Labs, which created Glassware, that shows fans wearing Glass real-time stats, instant replays and different camera angles on the headset.

Most Glass at Work applications, however, will probably look more like what Schlumberger has done, which was also name-checked in the Google post. The oilfield services company partnered with Wearable Intelligence to create Glassware tailored for its employees, so they'll have access to crucial information in the field on a hands-free device.

Using head-mounted displays for specific workplace scenarios is nothing new. The military has been using the tech for years, and scores of Glass Explorers have already shown novel workplace scenarios for Glass. North Carolina firefighter Patrick Jackson, for example, is working on an app that can provide firefighters in the field with potentially lifesaving information, including building floorplans and instructions for dismantling specific cars. And the NYPD is experimenting with cops wearing Glass.

Google's announcement of Glass at Work implies the company is interested in tailoring Glass to certain workplace needs, and will probably deploy specific tools for businesses interested in making Glassware.
It also helps shift the conversation about Glass, at least temporarily. Google Glass has been scrutinized for its implications about privacy, and it has suffered some bad press in the past few months, including an incident where a man was ejected from a movie theater and interrogated for wearing the headset, and another where a woman was apparently assaulted for wearing the headset in a San Francisco bar.

By putting the spotlight on developers like Jackson, Google can show the potential benefits of the wearable technology it's pushing forward. Those benefits were perhaps obvious and already in motion, but if it keeps people from talking about Glass and privacy for a few days, it's a win.if it keeps people from talking about Glass and privacy for a few days, it's a win.

In the end, however, Google wants Glass to have mainstream appeal. Glass for Work has its place, but if it becomes the focus, the headset won't ever reach beyond a niche market for a few specialized occupations. In addition to a hands-free camera, Glass provides instant access to Google, communication and the web just by speaking, which has lots of advantages for the everyday user as well.

Google has already begun addressing the issues surrounding privacy and fashion by first forbidding any Glassware that uses facial recognition, then through a partnership with Luxottica, maker of Ray-Ban and Oakley sunglasses, to create more stylish frames for Glass.

There's so far no release date for Glass, although Sergey Brin has previously cited 2014 as the target. The conversation over the next several months will help determine whether the device — and smart glasses in general — are destined to have mass appeal or become the equivalent of a hands-free BlackBerry.

OPEN MS-DOS Source Code
Early tech fans might remember the good 'ol days of Microsoft MS-DOS, the company's first operating system from the 1980's. Now, with the help of the Computer History Museum, Microsoft is making the source code for DOS available to the public for the first time ever. Get excited, hackers.
The Computer History Museum, based in Mountain View, Calif., is making MS DOS 1.1, 2.0 and Word 1.1a available to help fans and technologists better understand the history of computing.
Microsoft announced the move in a blog post on its website and detailed the early beginnings of the iconic software.
In 1980, IBM approached Microsoft to work on a project code-named “Chess.” What followed was a significant milestone in the history of the personal computer. Microsoft, at the time, provided the BASIC language interpreter for IBM. However, they had other plans and asked Microsoft to create an operating system. Without their own on hand, Microsoft licensed an operating system from Seattle Computer Products which would become the foundation for PC-DOS and MS-DOS.
IBM and Microsoft developed a unique relationship that paved the way for advancements in the nascent personal computer industry, and subsequent advancements in personal computing.
Following the first DOS-based version of Microsoft Word in 1983, Word for Windows launched in 1989 and become a huge hit for the company. It generated over half the revenue of the worldwide word-processing market, according to Microsoft.
"Thanks to the Computer History Museum, these important pieces of source code will be preserved and made available to the community for historical and technical scholarship," a company said in a statement.
It's enough to make us want to find our old 5.25-inch floppy drives and green CRT monitors.
Hello folks, How are you all. Today I'm here to bring you on of the most amazing hacking news or trick you can say. So let's begin it.

Hacking ATM Machines with Just a Text Message

Hacking ATMs with just text message
HOW-TO HACK ATMs
  • Connect a mobile phone to the machine with a USB cable and install Ploutus Malware.
  • The attacker sends two SMS messages to the mobile phone inside the ATM.
    • SMS 1 contains a valid activation ID to activate the malware
    • SMS 2 contains a valid dispense command to get the money out
  • Mobile attached inside the ATM detects valid incoming SMS messages and forwards them to the ATM as a TCP or UDP packet.
  • Network packet monitor (NPM) module coded in the malware receives the TCP/UDP packet and if it contains a valid command, it will execute Ploutus
  • Amount for Cash withdrawal is pre-configured inside the malware
  • Finally, the hacker can collect cash from the hacked ATM machine.

Researchers have detected few more advanced variants of this malware, some attempts to steal customer card and PIN data, while others attempt man-in-the-middle attacks.

This malware is now spreading to other countries, so you are recommended to pay extra attention and remain cautious while using an ATM.

Medium

Medium

Medium, the blogging platform created by Twitter co-founder Evan Williams, launched its first mobile app this week. The app lets users browse the latest posts or follow the site’s curated topic-based collections.
Medium's app is still relatively bare-bones — users can’t look up or post new content, for example — but what it lacks in features, it makes up in design.
Medium is available on iOS.

Newsbeat.jpg

Newsbeat

Newsbeat, the Tribune Co.’s new app, pulls in stories from hundreds of the company’s newspapers to create customized playlists of articles to be read out loud by an automated voice. It sounds gimmicky, but it’s not the first app to use this method. What's more, the robot voices sounds surprisingly un-robotic.
However, the free app is ad-supported, with brief ads playing about every 10 minutes.
Newsbeat is available on iOS and Android .

Firechat

Fire Chat

Unlike other messaging apps, FireChat allows users to message people without the need of a cellphone signal or Wi-Fi connection.
The app uses Apple’s Multipeer Connectivity Framework, built into iOS 7, to connect users with those around them.
FireChat's creators say the app works best for chatting with those within a 30-foot radius if you don’t have a mobile connection. But if you do, you can participate in a massive group chat with other users from around the world.
FireChat is available on iOS.

Runtastic Six Pack

The Runtastic Six Pack app, which provides tailored workouts complete with step-by-step videos that show you how to get six-pack abs, was updated to version 2.0 this week.
The update introduced new features, including body fat-visualization tools and integration with Runtastic’s heart-rate monitor.
The app is free, although most of the workouts require in-app purchases.
Runtastic Six Pack 2.0 is available on iOS. (There’s an Android version also available, but it hasn’t gotten the 2.0 update yet.)

NCAA March Madness Live

March Madness Live, the NCAA's official app for March Madness, gives you all the tools to ensure you don’t miss a second of the tournament.
Live stream games (games broadcasted on CBS are free, but all others require a cable subscription), get real-time score alerts and keep tabs on your bracket, while receiving all the latest news and updates from your favorite teams.
The free app is available on iOS and Android.
