Soaring in at the top overall spot with a 100% approval rating is LinkedIn's Jeff Weiner. He's been at the company since 2008, and received great reviews from former employees (who prefer to remain anonymous through Glassdoor).
“The CEO is what helps spread the culture. He emphasizes culture,” a LinkedIn associate web developer said.

2. Paul Jacobs* — Qualcomm

On the overall company list, Jacobs actually ranked fourth, but was lifted to second place in the tech realm. He nabbed a 95% rating at Qualcomm, which makes wireless telecommunications products.
“Visionary leader, great technology portfolio and offers opportunities to work on many different projects," a Qualcomm senior learning and development specialist said.
*Note from Glassdoor: Paul Jacobs was the CEO of Qualcomm at the time this report was compiled and therefore current Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf was ineligible for inclusion.

3. Brad Smith — Intuit

Smith placed sixth overall, but third on the tech list. Intuit's CEO since 2008, his employees at the software company give him a 94% approval.
“At the very top, Brad Smith and team are well-respected and keep things moving in the right direction,” an anonymous Intuit employee said.

4. Mark Zuckerberg — Facebook

In 2013, Zuckerberg was rated the top CEO overall, with a 99% approval rating. This year, the face of Facebook pulls in at fourth on the tech company list (ninth overall) with a 93% rating.
"Mark is an incredible leader who wants to make the world a better place, and I love doing work for a mission I care about," a Facebook analyst said.

5. Larry Page — Google

Page pulled in at 10th overall, but cut that in half on the tech side. Google's CEO (and co-founder) maintains a 93% approval rating. Despite the search engine's dominant global presence, Page keeps things low-key.

“Larry wants us to keep the soul of a startup, even though we no longer are one," an anonymous Google software engineer said.

6. Marc Benioff — Salesforce.com

Benioff wears a lot of hats at Salesforce.com. He's the cloud computing company's co-founder, chairman and CEO. He ranked 12th overall, but sixth on the tech list, with a 93% approval rating.
“Marc is the best CEO in the business — different for sure — but the best," an anonymous Salesforce employee said.

7. Jerry Kennelly — Riverbed Technology

Jerry Kennelly was lucky number 13 on the full list, but lands the seventh spot on the tech list. The CEO and chairman of Riverbed, an application performance company founded in 2002, landed a 93% approval rating.
“Jerry is a fantastic CEO with tons of enthusiasm and energy. Very personable and cares greatly about his company and people. Couldn't possibly be any nicer of a human being running a $1B company on this earth,” a Riverbed technology sales employee said.

8. Tim Cook — Apple

The heir to the Steve Jobs throne was 17 overall, but seized the eighth tech spot. Cook whipped up a 92% approval rating, a slight drop from last year's 93%.
“You feel like everything you do has a direct impact and you're a stakeholder," a front-end engineer said. "The VPs and CEO are not removed either. It's common to see them eating lunch on campus amongst everyone else.”

9. John Donahoe — eBay

The president and CEO of eBay since 2008, John Donahoe's actual ranking was at spot 19 in the top 50. He snagged a 91% approval and warm praise from employees.

Now Gmail Encrypts Messages to Google

Starting Thursday, Gmail will always use an encrypted HTTPS connection for sending and receiving email.
Gmail has supported HTTPS since 2004 (an option to enable HTTPS as the default setting for a particular account was added in 2008) and in 2010, Google made HTTPS connections the default user option.
Now, Gmail will only transfer data between your computer and Gmail's servers through an HTTPS connection. That means there is no chance of someone disabling the option on your account or machine in an attempt to intercept data before it hits Google's servers.
Google also announced on its Gmail blog that it will encrypt messages as they move internally through Google's systems. In the past, although information sent from your computer to Gmail was encrypted, that same data wasn't encrypted when it went to another Google server or data center.
Starting Thursday, that changes. In its post, Google says that this change is "something we made a top priority after last summer's revelations."
Of course, this won't necessarily eliminate the potential for entities such as the NSA to intercept information on Google's servers — and law enforcement agencies can still request access to data from companies such as Google — but it's a good step in increasing user privacy and security.

  2. 1
Try system restore first. If you have only just installed Windows Genuine Advantage notifications, simply using the system restore function will remove the program. Then refuse to accept the WGA update next time Windows updates. Otherwise, proceed as detailed below.
  3. 2
Open a Command Prompt window. Click on Start, then Run. Type CMD and press OK.
  4. 3
Change Directory into the System32 Folder. Type "cd \windows\system32" (without quotation marks).
  5. 4
Open Notepad window. Type the following lines:

    taskkill -IM wgatray.exe

    del wgatray.exe

    del wgalogon.old
  6. 5
Highlight and copy the three lines above to the Clipboard.
  7. 6
Paste the contents of the Clipboard to Command Prompt. This should kill the wgatray.exe process from the Taskbar and immediately delete both files wgatray.exe and wgalogon.dll.

  2. Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) notifications occur when your computer hasn't passed the validation test. The validation test can be failed because you installed a pirated non-genuine copy of XP, or because you have changed your XP product key to a software-generated key, or sometimes it just happens for no reason at all. However, you can easily get rid of these annoying notifications yourself.
  3. 1   Run as an administrator with no other user accounts running.
  4. 2
Launch Windows Task Manager (Processes). Leave it open.
  5. 3
Navigate to to C:\Windows\System32, and find WgaTray.exe.
  6. 4
Right-click on WgaTray.exe, and select Delete. Leave the deletion confirmation box open.
  7. 5
Go back to Windows Task Manager and click Wgatray.exe.
  8. 6
Click End Process. When you are prompted for a confirmation to terminate the process, align the “End Process” confirmation box with the previous “Delete File” confirmation box, or at least have them close together. Do this because you'll need to do both actions quickly — at least within 2 or 3 seconds.
  9. 7
Click Yes in both boxes, quickly. Click on Yes on the Task Manager prompt (to “end the process”) and then quickly press Yes on the deletion confirmation (to delete the actual file). You’ll need to repeat this if you miss it.
  10. 8
Launch the Registry Editor. Click Start, then Run, and enter regedit.
  11. 9
Browse to the following location:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify
  12. 10
Delete the folder WgaLogon and all its contents.
  13. 11
    Reboot Windows XP.
  14. 12
Check your work. As a precaution, after you have followed the above instructions:
    • Go to Control Panel > Security Center > Automatic Update Settings.
    • Select the third option, “Notify me but don’t automatically download or install them."
    • Click OK.
    • The next time the “Windows Updates” icon appears in the system tray, click on the icon and it will display a list of available updates. Windows won’t automatically download and install them anymore.
    • If “Windows Genuine Advantage Notification Tool” is there, uncheck it and press enter to download everything else (if you want to). You can right-click to “hide updates” that you don’t want.
    • Select “Don’t notify me about these updates again”, so that they will be ignored every time updates are downloaded.
    • Just remember, from now on, make sure to check the list of downloads so that you don’t install any new versions of this “tool”.
